Fibromyalgia refers to a group of symptoms marked by widespread (often debilitating) pain and muscle stiffness. The most common symptoms include:

  • Pain in muscles, joints and connective tissue
  • Brain fog and trouble concentrating
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Digestive disorders such as IBS or gut dysbiosis
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Sensitivities to chemicals and some foods
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Numbness and tingling in arms and legs
  • Menstrual pain and irregularities

Many people experience all the above symptoms, there are also some people who just experience a few. This condition manifests differently in each individual, one of the reasons why it often goes undiagnosed and is poorly understood.

Fibromyalgia affects 2% to 4% of the Australian population and is 9 times more prevalent in women than in men.

Unfortunately, currently in mainstream medical practice, there is no cure or treatment for this condition, rather symptom are simply managed using prescription medications to relieve pain, inflammation, insomnia and/or depression, which, sadly can often cause side effects such as fatigue, weight gain and further digestive issues. This approach simply masks the symptoms, rather than working to reverse the condition.
However, the great news is we have had exceptional results managing and reversing the symptoms using natural therapies to target the pain and inflammation. In addition, naturopathic medicine has shown proof to relieve symptoms associated with the condition.
Naturopathically we look at treatment as a multi-faceted approach where many things are considered to get right down to the root cause of the condition. It requires lifestyle changes but the exciting thing is almost all patients experience a significant reduction in pain and associated symptoms, many of which report 100% symptom free!

Some of the major factors to consider when treating Fibromyalgia are:

  • Thyroid disorders
  • Autoimmunity
  • Emotional and physical traumas
  • Food sensitivities
  • Heavy metal and chemical toxicities
  • Imbalances in the gut microbiome
  • Adrenal stress
  • Chronic infections
  • Reproductive hormones such as estrogen
